Concepción Pardo, widow of García Conde
Her Story
In 1914, after the death of her husband, Don Agustín García Conde, Mrs. Concepción Pardo decided to honor his memory by founding an educational institution in his name. Thus was born the Agustín García Conde School, which has since been a landmark in the community of Tlalpan, Mexico City.
Concepción Pardo was a visionary woman who, at a time when few women had a public voice, chose education as a way to transform lives. Her legacy not only preserved her husband's name but also opened opportunities for generations of students.
In this same area, in 1962, the National Monte de Piedad inaugurated the "Mateos Portillo" Rest Home, in honor of Mr. Mateos Portillo, who wished to dedicate his assets to a project that would provide care and companionship to elderly people in vulnerable situations. This worthy cause was made possible thanks to the appointment of his nephew, the then President of Mexico, Adolfo López Mateos, as executor in charge of fulfilling his last will.
Both initiatives—one dedicated to education and the other to senior care—share a profound humanistic spirit. Today, they are part of the legacy continued by the Bringas-Haghenbeck Foundation (IAP), following its merger with the Foundation for Human Promotion (IAP) on September 30, 2023, ensuring the continuity of its social and educational mission.
