His Story
Legacy of solidarity: the origin of the Social Assistance Center, AC
Ernst Homberg Lehmann, along with other members of the German community in Mexico, supported the initiative of Pastor Reinhardt Müller, leader of the German-speaking Evangelical Lutheran Church in our country. This proposal sought to create an institution dedicated to providing care to low-income people, with the support of volunteers and healthcare professionals of German origin, who offered their services on an honorary basis. The project also included the active participation of the beneficiary community, as a show of gratitude to the Mexican people for the warm welcome given to the German community.
As a result of this joint effort, the Social Assistance Center (CAS) was founded in 1963 with the mission of offering specialized medical services in areas such as ophthalmology, gynecology, nutrition, physical therapy, psychotherapy, colposcopy, ultrasound, and dental specialties. In addition, the CAS promoted technical training facilities such as the Emil Adolf von Behring School of Auxiliary Nursing, thus consolidating its commitment to the integral development of individuals.
On February 18, 2020, the CAS merged with the Bringas-Haghenbeck Foundation (IAP), strengthening its work and ensuring the continuity of the legacy of solidarity initiated by the German community in Mexico.
