Doña Luisa García-Conde, Widow of Cosío
Her Story
She was born in Mexico City to Pedro García-Conde Vidal de Lorca and María Loreto García-Conde Maneiro. She married Agustín González de Cosío on May 25, 1871, in La Candelaria, in the old Tacubaya neighborhood of Mexico City. The Agustín González de Cosío Nursing Home was founded in 1915 through the generosity of Luisa González, who only asked that the nursing home bear the name of her "unforgettable husband, Agustín González de Cosío, so that his memory may be remembered and as a living testimony to the immense gratitude I hold for him and the happiness he so tenderly gave me," a clear expression of her feelings and desires, contained in her idea "that the poor should receive the usufruct of his assets and any remaining assets after covering the various legacies he sent." This idea is perfectly in line with the provisions of the current private charity law for the best execution of the task entrusted to them. The Agustín González de Cosío Asylum was established in a solid 17th-century building with gardens, a chapel, a library, music and rest rooms, spanning just over 9,000 square meters in the Popotla area of Mexico City. It joined the Private Assistance Board in 1921. In order to collaborate in the restoration and improvement of its services, some members of the Board of Trustees of the Bringas-Haghenbeck Foundation (IAP) took on the responsibility of ensuring the founding will of Doña María Luisa, merging the institution with the one that bore her beloved husband's name in 2017.
