Mrs. Luz Bringas y Robles

Her Story

She was born in Puebla on May 17, 1857, to Luz Robles and Miguel Bringas, who had three more children: Miguel, Joaquín, and Ángela. Luz was the youngest daughter of the couple. Miguel, Luz's father, was born into a family that had made a considerable fortune in Veracruz. In the mid-19th century, Miguel and his brother José María entered the tobacco business, increasing the family fortune to the size that later earned Luz the reputation of being one of the richest women in Mexico. After the death of their parents and their brother Miguel, their sisters Ángela and Luz inherited the fortune and business. For many years, both demonstrated great ability and diligence in managing the family assets and businesses. In 1915, upon Ángela's death, Luz became the sole heir to the family estate, and in 1935, she decided to allocate it to a foundation for the assistance of children and the elderly. Moment in which the Luz Bringas y Robles IAP Foundation was established Eleven years after the creation of the institution, in February 1946, Mrs. Luz Bringas died in Wandsworth, London, England at the age of 89.
